Rabbit Gulch Tubin' FUN - MisterCompletely - 09-12-2009 [#500000]Got to Rabbit Gulch at 7 with the sunrise, but didn't get to fishin' until 7:30. Beautiful morning, very slight breeze. First fish was a 13" skinny walleye on a red roadrunner and piece of worm at about 30'. Turned out he was camera shy and flipped back into the water while I was getting the camera ready. Oh well, I wasn't going to keep him anyway.[/#500000] [#500000][/#500000] [#500000]Second fish was just a big ugly stick.[/#500000] [#500000][/#500000] [#500000]Third was another stick - - no wait, it's pulling back! A nice 14" smallie, also on the roadrunner. A quick pic and back he went.[/#500000] [#500000][/#500000] [#500000]Then I got over the perch in 30 to 35 feet of water, near the buoys. It was just a game of steal the worm, get caught, steal the worm, get caught. Mostly steal the worm. Some were fat, many were small. nothing huge. I brought the basket to bring some home, but ended up not keeping any. I didn't take many pictures either. One perch looks just like another, you know.[/#500000] [#500000][/#500000] [#500000]Three bass boats stayed in the Gulch most of the morning, with the tourney I assume. The wind kicked up about 10:30 and they all left. It blew me back toward my truck, so I thought I'd go ashore for a break, but then decided against going back out again. It wasn't a bad blow, but it made fishing a lot of work. Got checked by 2 different park rangers, mostly making sure everyone paid to get in. Love those annual passes! [ ![]() [#500000][/#500000] [#500000]I drove over to the main park area. Whoa, I was glad I didn't have my boat. The place was packed. It reminded me why I almost always fish in the middle of the week. [/#500000] [#500000][/#500000] [#500000]All in all a very fun trip. Thanks TubeDude for your helpful info. Oh, and the sonar worked great (1st time using it on the tube). I'll definitely do the Gulch again. Glad you made it over and had some fun. That place kinda gets to you and makes you want to do it again some more.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Good to hear your sonar works for you. It can really mean the difference between catching fish and just a lot of looking and jigging.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]By the way, you COULD have kept that stick. Regulations say "forkhorn or better". But, they are tough to fillet and are not nearly as good as walleye and perch.[/#0000ff] [signature] |
