Afternoon on Bountiful Pond - MaDFisher55 - 10-25-2009

After missing all the fun the last two weeks and after my sweetheart left for work and after the Honey Doos were done, I could no longer stand it and had get wet. Besides I wated to try out my re-desigined rod holder.

So I headed down to our local pond in West Bountiful. This a great little pond only 5 minutes from home. Great place to kill a few hours with out driving hours.

Lots of usual banktanglers but I had the rest of the pond to my self. Water temp was 55, wind about 8 to 10 and just a few sprinkles of rain but not much and not to often.

No motors allowed on this pond so I kicked my way against the wind to the West end (the most kicking I have ever done. Boy are my legs going to be sore tomorrow) and hooked a nice 15 incher just before getting to the west end. Hung around that area for a while and the next 3 bows got progressively smaller.

Then spent the next hour or so till sunset drifting back with wind to the east with no more to show for it.

Best part was i'm sure my blood pressure had to have dropped 30 points. Had a very nice after noon.

I have caught perch and white bass in here but these are the first Troutskies. Great afternoon.

I keep thinking I need to get over there. Caught a nice CAT out of there once not to mention allot of trout.
Just have to google up how to get there from S.L. since the Legacy Hiway.

Nice job!

Easiest way is to take the Legacy highway off of I-215 north and take the 500 South exit. Go left and follow road to the pond. Since they put in Legacy, it is easier to get to than it used to be. If coming off of I-15, take 500 south exit head west. Go over legacy and keep following road along the west side of legacy and you will come to the pond.

FG if you have not been there in a while there have been a lot of improvements. Paved road in, bathroom facalities, nice trail around the pond. The two fishing piers, picnic tables and a concrete launch.

However I would not eat the fish out of there as its next to the dump and all the city run off runs in there. But it is a fun place to kill some time huh?

Kev, you have nothing to be jealous about the way I fish. I'm still learning from you!

Hope your feeling better!

Oh man, that is great ! Having a pond few minutes from
your house to play in. And it does have good size fish
in it. Nice.
Rod holder looks great. For some reason I taught that
you fly fish as well.

Peter, I do fly fish but it was too windy to use the fly rod yesterday. So I just cranked a neon multicolored Rapalla most of the time.

The re-designed rod holder works with both fly rod and spin cast. Im not cordonated enough to use 2 rods at a time so I just use this holder to get the working rod out of my hands when needed. I have a 4 rod holder behind and to the left of me for the "in waiting" rods.

It really is a quick and fun place to go for a few hours after the Honey Doos are done!

FG, I have no doubt that YOU can catch fish in a hurricane. [sly]

But as for me, I openly admit that even thou I have had and used a fly rod on and off for a lot of years, I really suck at it. Getting better but still really suck. Add a good breeze and I suck even more. But im practicing in my yard all time. When I get better at it, I will practice in the wind! LOL

You will learn how to use the wind to help you cast.
Put the wind in your back and you can cast very far.
Wind can be your friend if you make it to be[Wink]

Re: [peter805] Afternoon on Bountiful Pond - flygoddess - 10-26-2009

For sure, but you don't want to be doing allot of false casting as the back cast into the wind can get ugly. I prefer cross wind.
But for roll casting...wind at the back doesn't get any better, right Peter?

Re: [flygoddess] Afternoon on Bountiful Pond - peter805 - 10-26-2009

Thats right ! Cross wind for "normal" casting and back wind for roll casting.
Wind in my face - trolling sub surface and using the wind to move my float tube for me[Smile]

I am assuming, looking at your pictures, that it is not a shore fishing delight still. Limited to shore fishing because of the bushes.
That is too bad. Most of the ponds have access anywhere around the pond, but this seems like docks or tube/toon.

Re: [flygoddess] Afternoon on Bountiful Pond - albinotrout - 10-26-2009

Yes there are bushes buth alot have been cleared off in places. So there is more shoreline access.

Really? That could be a go then. I am having a bit of trouble with my back and I enjoy the shore for now.
