New Guy, New Post - CoopDeVille - 12-31-2009

Hello everyone, I've been a long time reader, now I'm a first time poster. Just wanted to start by saying I love this site and all the information that is so openly shared here. I grew up in Utah (I know, I'm a "Utard") and have lived here in SE Idaho for a few years now. I just want to commend everyone on how open and friendly you all are, especially with reports, locations, etc. On the sites down in Utah people are so uptight about "hotspotting" and letting everyone know what they're using and where they are catching them. So it's definitely refreshing when we all can benefit from each other's knowledge. I think that the people that benefit the most, besides us fish-aholics, is our kids. Because wherever I get into fish, you can bet my kids are gonna be there with me when I can get them out there!

Anyway, now for my report. I hit up Hawkins yesterday for my first time and had a fish on first thing. I am normally a perch ice fishing guy and so I was surprised to get into a fish right away. I left my worm stuff at home so I had to settle with tube jibs and a powerbait on ice fly droppers. Well, my excitement turned to dismay as I didn't catch a thing for the next two hours. I did fish the willow areas and tried a few more, but nothing. The other folks I saw on the ice basically had the same report.

Did some business out in Soda and got a local report on Alexander. They had been catching some perch, so I decided to try another spot for my first time. I went by the dam and basically piggy-backed from a few holes already drilled. I immediately got into perch. I kept 6 fish in the 6-7 inch range and let a hand full of smaller guys go. I only fished for an hour or so and had good action the hole time.

Well, thanks again for the good reads. I hope you all stay out of trouble for the new year [Wink].

I am kind of reverse, I was born and raised Idaho, but now live in Utah.
As far as Hot Spotting....I got to say I am one of those for sure. But I am not in to Combat fishing at all.
Good luck on sharing info. I still prefer the PM function, but I have seen several very nice honey holes ruined by reports (Late Doug Miller for one)

Welcome to the board; you will find this is a pretty outstanding group of people here. I may be 7th generations deep in Idaho, but I am a proud graduate of Utah State Univ.! As long as you appreciate the West it really does not matter where you are from.

Thanks for the Hawkins update!

Welcome too the best social net work for fisherman out there at least thats my opinion
I dont mind sharing info but I do have a hard time giving out top secret information on the most productive areas on body of water or the style thats just out fishing any other style that day, Sharing knowledge is fundamental in keeping people interested in fishing and new bloods too find the joy in fishing Theres nothing worse too me than too hear how someone new too fishing has gone out time and time again and caught nothing that just makes me so Sad and I will always lend out a select amount of knowledge too help them out. But I am also a fisherman and love too hear how a seasoned fisherman has failed for the day on a body of water Ive just been slaying...
Old Doug Miller I didnt mind him honey hole smearing that was his job too get people who were fisherman and people who were not the knowledge on were and how too fish just like any fishing show. He was just a lucky SOB with a great job I seen him a few times out and about fishing with his crew and he was always friendly too me and my friends and they gave use plenty of room too fish and we had a good laugh or too watching them do the show. So Doug rest in peace and thanks for doing more than your fair share in getting new bloods into the game and giving old guys something too talk about at the coffee shop.

Not disputing Mr. Miller as being a great guy, but I can PM you several SMALL waters he should have NOT exposed to the public...Alas...they suck now[laugh]

Again, nothing wrong with helping, and the PM function is a piece of cake here.
Fine line between bragging rights and hot spotting[cool]

Also nothing wrong with talking about BIG waters that can take the pressure.

Warchild, I have helped my share and agree with you, but I just go about it a little more discretely so that if I do give a hot tip, I don't worry about everybody and there brother or sister being there, thats, all.
