San Diegos Day at the Docks Set for Sunday, April 18 - FishNews - 03-26-2010

For the past 31 years, this free public celebration of sportfishing has symbolized the official launch of Southern California's spring saltwater fishing season. The largest public celebration of its kind on the West Coast, Day at the Docks offers a wide array of marine attractions, all taking place at the home of the largest sportfishing fleet in the world on San Diego's Point Loma waterfront.

In addition to almost 200 exhibitors, the following is a few of the activities which will be available:

FLEET OPEN HOUSE

The skilled Captains of San Diego's modern fishing fleet will welcome you aboard for an insider's look at their vessels and to discuss the upcoming season. Several boats will be offering on-the-water narrated tours of San Diego Bay.

FISHING SEMINARS

San Diego fleet skippers and other industry experts share their years of experience with their audience to help improve angling skills and catches.

CATCH, PREP & COOK CENTER

Tommy Gomes, California Offshore Products, has teamed up with Specialty Produce to assemble a team of some of San Diego's finest chefs to demonstrate the proper handling and preparation of fresh fish. Cooking demos include recipes and sampling.

KID'S FISHING ADVENTURE

Sponsored by West Marine, Okuma Fishing Tackle and Everingham Brothers Bait Company

Children 4-12 years old can catch their own fish in special stocked areas. San Diego Rod & Reel Club and the San Diego Anglers' members will be on hand to assist.

COMPETITIONS

Casting contests Sponsored by Seeker Rods and Avet Reels This competition is for novice and pro alike. Competition is set for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Points are awarded for distance and accuracy. Fishing trips and tackle awarded to the winners!

Pro staff at Izorline presents the knot tying competition Young and old alike can try their hand at tying the strongest fishing knot which will be tested with the Izorline Knot Gauge. Prizes include half-day and full-day fishing trips

The San Diego Sportfishing Council is proud to sponsor this special showcase of the San Diego Sportfishing fleet held on Sunday, April 18th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is absolutely free!
