I called The Strawberry Marina a few minutes ago and she said that there was 30 to 40 feet of open water in the bays and I believe she said 5 or 6 feet elsewhere. She said some anlgers were fishing from the shore. Say hi if you see two anglers fishing up there (not sure where that will be, depends on what we find when we get up there) tomorrow.

I tried fishing there yesterday - not enough open water to do anything. At The Ladders, Chicken Creek West and Mud Creek there was a little open in shallow areas - maybe out 20-30 feet. But in those spots the water was so shallow it wasn't worth fishing. It was cold, rainy and windy so we only stayed a few minutes. Temps are supposed to warm a bit over the weekend, but it will still be cold compared to normal. I think it will be another week before there is serious ice-off fishing.

I went up to the berry today. My partner and I caught 14 cutthroat and another group of two caught over ten as well. We used olive, brown and black wooly buggers fly fishing or casted gold spinners, or dark colored tube and maribou jigs. Everything seemed to work. We fished from three P.M. til it got too dark to see. We caught five of them after the sun set over the horizon until we couldn't see anymore. Overall everyone I talked to caught at least four but most caught more. We fished chicken creek east but moved around a lot in that area. Don't stay in the same spot too long.

Did you make it up Kent? How did you do if you did?

Sorry but I went on a 3-day fishing trip and just got back. There wasn't quite enough open water on Thursday, but there was plenty when we drove by on our way home from Pelican this evening.
