SouthernCalifornia Saltwater Report 8/6-12 - JapanRon - 08-07-2003 Hey there guys, Southern California Saltwater Report for August 6, 2003 Way Up North-Avila Good albie bite along with rockfish. Up North- Channel Island Unbelievable bite on the WSB at Channel Island Sportfishing Center over 130 today! LA Area- Catalina Island Calicos and Barracuda bite good Further South- San Clemente Calico Bite good for the boats that make it. San Diego- Albacore and Local Albie bite the best in years. Boats continue to get limit fishing in mexican water as well as up further north. LA Local Limits for a number of boats on both the sandbass and barracuda. Limiting out are a by far the 3/4 day boats. Good bite on the plastics which is fortunate because the live bait in not that fantastic as some receivers. Other receivers have almost anything you want including squid! Up North- Channel Islands The same to landings as yesterday hit the WSB pretty good with lots of other fish in the sacks. Oh Ya, They are making their own squid!!!! LA Area- Catalina Island The WSB and YT bite just ain't comin' off like one would hope. Anglers just gotta be satisfied with Calicos and Barracuda. Further South- San Clemente Nothing going on that is big breaking news. San Diego- Local and Albies The albie bite just won't quit! Boats are loading up. Local 3/4 and 1/2 boats are going out for some reason but I don't think it to catch any real numbers of fish. Great conversation effort if it intentional. LA Local The Barracuda counts have matched the Sand Bass counts on some boats. Either way, fishing is really good south of Point Fermin to Newport. Save yourself some time and take a boat close to the Huntington flats!! That's where 3/4 of the boats end up anyway!!!! ha ha JapanRon [signature] Re: [JapanRon] SouthernCalifornia Saltwater Report 8/6-12 - JapanRon - 08-09-2003 Hey there guys, Southern California Saltwater Report for August 8, 2003 (Friday) Way Up North- Avila Rockfish is about all that's happening. Up North- Channel Islands There was really a mixed bag of fish species today with fair counts per rod. LA Area- Catalina Island So many boats are fishing Sand Bass that not many are going after the Calicos at the island. Further South- San Clemente Boats that go can just about count on limits of Calicos but not much bigger than 12 inches for most fish. San Diego- Local and Albacore Albacore doing great for almost all the boats getting out. Local bite is just about what I've reported for the last week which is ....... well you know. LA Local Passenger numbers were really down today so that brought the landing counts down too. Most 3/4 day boats doing well with some of the poor halfday boats doing so lousy I hope they got rain checks. No Kidding. Up North- Channel Island CISC and Port Hueneme had quite a few WSB as well as a very nice mixed bag of all kinds of fishys. Really neat. LA Area- Catalina Island Calicos are steady but YT and WSB are underwhelming. Further South- San Clemente Calicos about the only thing worthy of note. San Diego Local and Albies If you want to get some albacore just go next week. Rough water may subside for awhile. Local bite? well... the usual low reports from the sporties. LA Local Is everybody tired of sand bass. Low numbers of anglers and thus low sand bass counts. Good barracuda counts on many boats almost matching our bass numbers. JapanRon [signature] Re: [JapanRon] SouthernCalifornia Saltwater Report 8/6-12 - JapanRon - 08-11-2003 Hey there guys, Southern California Saltwater Report for August 10, 2003 (Sunday) Way Up North- Avila limits of rockfish for many that went from the two landings. Up North- Channel Island Wow there was a big sand bass bite up there today! also lots of various rockfish. LA Area- Catalina Island Didn't see any decent counts on either YT or WSB. Calico and Barracuda fishing should still be holding with the water temprature. Further South- San Clemente Reports of a few YT and good numbers of Calicos. San Diego- Local and Albacore Unbelievable counts on ablies and even the local counts picked up of course the local boats were loaded er.. had lots of anglers fishing and some even catching. LA Local Sand Bass and Barracuda remianed the main attraction. Barries were easier caught on some boats that Sand Bass. I wonder if the SB bite is going to start to get spotty! I'll be out there for the next 3 day to find out so stay tuned! I'm just a glutton for punishment! Up North- Channel Islands The Sand Bass bite is wide open. Yep Wide Open. Lots of other fish being taken also with the exception of a relatively weak WSB bite. LA Area- Catalina Islands Calicos biting with more sporties making trips to the island. Further South San Clemente Don't have any info other than only a few boats seem to go there on the weekend with one regularly scheduled for I believe Friday San Diego- Local and Albacore Albacore fishing fantastic. The Blue Horizon got limits of albies yesterday out of Islandia. She doesn't always go out every day but good counts when she does. Local bite is the usual average of 2 to 3 fish per rod with the landings up further north doing a little better. LA Local The Barracuda bite is taking up the slack in the Sand Bass bite so everyone is pretty happy out on Huntington Flats. Biting on bait as well as plastics and jigs. JapanRon [signature] Re: [JapanRon] SouthernCalifornia Saltwater Report 8/6-12 - JapanRon - 08-13-2003 Hey there guys, Southern California Saltwater Report for August 12, 2003 (Tuesday) This report is the last report of this 7 day period. A new one week period starts tomorrow. Way Up North- Avila Rockfish counts good for the number of anglers getting out. Weather is coming up. Up North- Channel Islands LA Area- Catalina Island Calicos and Barries are biting but the weather is changing. Further South- San Clemente San Diego- Local and Albacore Local fishing is not anything like the LA area. Albacore counts dropping but the weather is changing so....... LA Local The Sand Bass counts are down although the passenger numbers remain steady. Barracuda numbers are also reduced and some 3/4 day boats may opt to go to Catalina tomorrow.
