LOGAN RIVER SKUNKOO! - Marathonman - 09-20-2010 My wife and kids were running the Top of Utah marathon in Logan so I thought I'd sneak away and hit the Logan River, and bypassed Blacksmith fork. Its been several years since I tossed a fly since I'm hooked on warm water fishing. I went up and down the river, fishing dryflies, then spinners. Usually I can throw rocks in the water and see them dashing around.*note_ I threw the rocks in the water AFTER I fished. Ha! Didn't see nuttin! That was a total waste. The good thing was that my family finished the marathon. Hitting 2 birds with one stone has never worked for me. If I have a family plan in place, a side fishing trip has never been successful. I've heard some good reports of hungry trout starting to strap on the fall-feedbags up the canyon. And if the Wellsville view is any indication, I think fall colors are starting on. Seems like some co-anglers have been hitting into the Hyrum trout pretty good - even it they did get flipped the middle fin on a few leap-n-release moves. Same coworker told me they saw lots of dads by the spillway. Might have to move along the shore a bit and try again! Planning to take the boy up the canyon after guitar class tomorrow. Maybe try the fly-bobber approach I've been meaning to for some time. I got some woolly buggers and streamers that NEED some nipping! Blacksmith sounds like it's hitting now too, but I agree - avoiding the TOU crowds, well served! But I almost went there instead of (ok, after...) I hit Hyrum sat. |
