Catfish on Ice? - timberhall - 12-02-2010 Well my 5 year old son and I have a goal of getting a catfish through the ice at Willard this year. I am looking for suggestions on some ways to do this. Tubedude suggested small lures tipped with worm. I am sure that would work. Does any one else have ideas. Does any one have experience with cats through the ice at Willard? Also have caught a fair share on 3in white grubs tipped with mealys !! They eat year round in that pond and Ive seen 20 + caught ina few hours while icefishing at the bay !!! Location is key like usual keep movin till you findem just like in the open water [][] [signature] Re: [FISHAMANIAC801] Catfish on Ice? - timberhall - 12-03-2010 How did they bite. Was it a really soft bite or did they take it fairly well. Do I need a spring bobber for them? [signature] Re: [timberhall] Catfish on Ice? - FISHAMANIAC801 - 12-03-2010 Bite was heavy fersure !!! Springbobbers a no no there unless fishing the slabs or perch !! A finder is a must !!! Or the search becomes a hassle @ times.. The north and south dike is usually hotter than what most people ever report in a ice post >>[][] My goal is to ice the WIPER !!! Had them on but cant get their heads to clear the hole !!! Going braid this winter and will get atleast 1 fersure !!!! [signature] Re: [timberhall] Catfish on Ice? - FishKillr - 12-03-2010 no spring bobber needed. They bite strong enough for ya to see it....nothing compared to in the hot summer nights, but you know they are there. We found to wait a minute before setting the hook so that they actually get it into their mouth helped us with hookups. They hit jig jigging spoons (tipped with bait or not). I prefer to tip with minnow heads. We catch them at night, 5' or so off the bottom in 15' of water. Sometimes 10' Glow seems to be best. We are talking big cats too 10-15lbs. [signature] |
