shsimons, Nickajack, 44 lb blue, 12-21-10 - FishNews - 12-22-2010 Hit the water around 3:30 looking for Mr. Blue. Anchored up in the sweet spot, waited about 40 minutes and then one of the rods tenses a bit. Hardly even looked like a bite. I picked up and made a sweeping hookset. After a couple of minutes, I had the whole ordeal of trying to net the fish in 45,000 cfs with no handle, ha. Anyway, I got the blue in the boat and snapped a foggy picture. Weighed in at 44 lbs. I kept the same anchor, and around 45 minutes later, a rod taps once. Then, it tenses up a bit, I crank down and I'm into a pretty big fish. After 30 seconds or so, it pops off, bummer. I had about 2 other tap taps. The bites are strange, I guess I'm used to them swimming off and peeling drag, but it's like they are eating and just chilling with the bait in one spot.

It's pretty cool that a 44 lber like that was dwarfed by the fish the day before. I am headed north tomorrow morning, but if I'm back next week I'll be looking for the big one!

Mini-hot streak, wish I could stick around a few more days. |
