Fundraising Challenge Issued on Behalf of Future Fisherman Foundation - FishNews - 01-16-2011

VISTA, Calif. -Like other non-profit organizations, theFuture Fisherman Foundation (F3) relies largely on donations to fund its important youth-education programs such as Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs and Physh Ed. Executive director Keith Sutton says F3 has set a goal of raising $50,000 by the end of 2010 and an additional $200,000 in 2011. These funds are needed so F3 can continue to fulfill its role as the nationally recognized leader in sportfishing and aquatic-resource education.

"With fishing participation rates and angler retention at the lowest levels in decades, there's never been a greater need for F3's services as a national coordinator of fishing-education programs," said Sutton. "But like other non-profit organizations, we've found it increasingly difficult during these tough economic times to obtain grants and other funding that once supported our programs. Right now we have a critical need for any donations our supporters can send."

One of several fishing-industry partners that have generously provided assistance is Fisherman's Wholesale Tackle and Supply ( www.hot-bite.com) of Vista, California. The company recently donated $1,000 to support F3's efforts on behalf of youth-fishing educators nationwide.

"As dismal as this season has been, think of how much worse it could have been if we didn't have new anglers entering our sport", said Fisherman's Wholesale president Monk Medaris. "Now think about the future. Can you imagine what our industry will look like without the Future Fisherman Foundation to serve as a national coordinator and go-to place for youth groups that need help implementing fishing in their programs? The current economic situation is tough, I know, but I challenge and encourage other fishing-tackle distributors and retailers to send whatever amount they can. If all industry partners donate what they can, we can make sure the Foundation has the funding it needs to ensure the future of fishing."

"We're extremely grateful for the support shown by Fisherman's Wholesale," said Sutton. "We hope other companies will follow the example set by Mr. Medaris and support our efforts to provide quality fishing experiences for school-aged children nationwide."
