East canyon - mattpeace - 02-02-2011

I was informed today that i will be sent to east canyon for a week in may to work and i am not familiar with the area.
Was wondering if anyone here could tell me some good places to fish while i am there. You can send it in a pm if you would like.

East Canyon Reservoir would be the closest place to fish. The Ice fishing there right now is really good, and is very good during the warmer months.

So many good places to fish in that area. EC is great for fishing. From there it isn't much of a drive to fish PV, Echo, Rockport, the River between Echo and Rockport. Shouldn't be too far or hard to find fish anywhere around there.

Re: [perchski] East canyon - mattpeace - 02-03-2011

I live in ogden and fish the veiw regularly, I won't be able to travel too far away as I will only get a couple hours in the morning and a couple hours in the afternoon each day to fish so whatever i find would have to be pretty close. I have never been to echo or rockport, I have a general idea where echo is but haven't a clue where rockport is.
Honestly i was kind of hoping there was a river near by so I could practice up on fly fishing.

Re: [Tiller] East canyon - Topehaw - 02-03-2011

All you got to do is get past the unsightly anchor worm! Your right Dan, East Canyon Reservoir is the closet place to fish in East Canyon. Sorry i just couldn't resist on that one. What does Bill Engvall say???

Matt, PM me in a about a month and i will team up with you and fish some private section of the East Canyon Creek. Also start praying that they can get somewhere on that HB 141 that past last year that took away your right to fish darn near most of that great fishery!

I didn't know about the reservoir when i posted this, i am unfamiliar with that area of utah. I haven't explored much of the reservoirs in utah since i live close to a few I haven't felt the need to explore more yet, still trying to get to know the ones close to me[Smile]. I am more interested in rivers as I don't know if i'll be able to bring my tube and would really like to get better at fly fishing.

Re: [mattpeace] East canyon - perchski - 02-03-2011

If you're on I-80 going east Rockport is on the right side of the road just coming into Coalville you can pretty well see the damn from the interstate, Echo is on I-80 on the right side as you are leaving Coalville, only a few miles between the two. If you're looking for a river to fish, the one that connects the two is a great place for some flies. Or the river leaving Echo all along I-84 headed back to Ogden.

And BTW, thhere are crappies and sm bass in EC. Don't know much about catching them, except little smallies for the kids good times, but they are there. Might make a nice summer project.

Re: [mattpeace] East canyon - perchski - 02-03-2011

Another thing to consider if you ever get much time during the summer is if you go out of Kamas, take the mirror lake highway and get some of those lakes in. Beautiful country and more water than you can fish in a summer, plenty of fish in all those lakes and there are a lot of them. Might take you a little longer to get there but I promise it would be worth the trip. Those are the lakes I cut my teeth on with my fly rod, they do get kind of crowded on the weekends, but if you can take a float tube out you will get plenty of fish and I can't think of a better way to spend a summer.

Re: [perchski] East canyon - mattpeace - 02-04-2011

thanks for the info, i work sun-wed so I have at least one day a week i don't really worry about the crowds until summer vacation starts. I already have several places that are on my list to try fishing during open water season, and a couple close to me that I intend to get a little more familiar with.
