love to eat catfish. but do not know when you start to fish for them? any help will help

It seems we have caught them as early as end of april or first of may. That is on the bear river however. I think a lot of it depends on the weather and when the run off is.

Thanks for the help. we fished the mississippi this summer and cought a few and they taste so good so trying to catch some more. what time of day is good

[cool][#0000ff]Most people think you have to fish at night for cats. In some areas the night fishing is better. In Willard you will catch cats just about all day because they are sight feeders and feed on live food (shad and crawdads). I fish only during the day, myself, and usually do better between the time the sun comes over the mountain (8-ish) to about noon. Sometimes they slow down for a while at midday. But they usually get active again by late afternoon into evening.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]During the warm part of the year you will usually catch bigger cats by fishing at night...and right next to the rocks. The bigguns prowl the rocks looking for whatever they can find...crawdads, bluegills, crappies, shad or whatever. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]This time of year you just fish from the rocks out to about 15', looking until you find the fish. Use minnows, cut carp meat, nightcrawlers or even a piece of hot dog. It can be slow in cold water but after a couple of nice calm warm days the fish often get very active.[/#0000ff]
