Does your boat have one of these? It should! - Kodiak1 - 04-15-2011 [url "http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/salmon/selective/"]http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/salmon/selective/[/url] The Washington fisheries people have been begging people for the last 10 years to use a "de-hooker" to prevent the needless death of shakers, adult salmon which need to be released because they are out of season or have an adipose fin, etc. I have used one--actually, I carry one on each side of the boat for easy access--for the last 10 years and they not only work great for salmon, but also all of our Idaho fish. You can make one easily. The directions are on the website above. I took one of my wife's golf club grip replacements and used it on the handle end to prevent slipping. They also reduce hook damage brought about by needle nose pliers, and you don't even get your hands slimy!! You'll appreciate it, and so will the fish that live to fight another day. Thanks for the link! [signature] Re: [Kodiak1] Does your boat have one of these? It should! - ironrod - 04-15-2011 got a couple as well! Also switched my nets over to rubber netting- helps when you think you might want to keep one but decide not to do so....less friction on the slime layer [signature] Re: [ironrod] Does your boat have one of these? If you get line wrapped around a prop, especially in the ocean, they are just what you need to untwist it. They can grab a downrigger cable and swing it in. Just to name a few uses! Mike [signature] |
