So. Utah - fsh4fun05 - 04-20-2011

Fished Quail on Friday, Sand hollow Saturday and Quail again on Sunday. Temps in mid 50's on both lakes, warmer in the shallows. SH has some good ones in the brush but no beds yet (I'm sure that has changed by now), Quail got pounded by a tournament on Saturday and on Sunday all we found was empty beds and pressured big fish that wouldn't bite, not happy about that.
I'm a bass fisherman, I fish tournaments here and there but I don't condone taking bass from beds and not immediately releasing them, my two cents.
Fatty was a 6.6 caught by my buddy at SH, my biggest was around 5 at Quail fishin' in the junk.
I'll post some pics when I get a chance

And there's the rub. On a lake as small as Quail, any tournament durring the spawn will have a negative effect and a direct impact on the fish and this years class of new fry. We kind of dodged a bullet on this one because the fish had not really started their spawn yet, and if you look at the weights from that tournament, it shows just that.

One thing we have to keep in mind is that it was a legal tournament that had all the required permits and it could have been a whole lot worse on the fish than it was.

Releasing a bed fish is one thing, putting it in a live well all day until weigh in, throw 'em in a bag and put them on the scale, put them back in the bag and release them at the boat docks after several hours of captivity. You really think they'll go back to their beds after all that stress?
I watched several pairs of bass getting their groove on at Quail, it was frustrating that they didn't care about anything else. I don't agree with the new regs at Quail but SH has plenty of bass to throw in the frying pan.

They will be back on a bed more than likely but I doubt they will go back to the bed that they were caught from is what I meant. Anywho, no sense in arguing about it. It was nice to get out and the weather was beautiful and it was much better than working in the rain and snow.

Nice fish dude, by the looks of your trophy you must have done pretty damn good, comparatively.

What are the new regs there?

6 bass with one over 12", I think there should be a higher length limit on Quail.

FOD, the trophy was from angler of the year 2010 not from Quail. It was the first time I had seen it so I had to take a pic (working out state).

Bigbassaholic, pm sent.

I would agree (not trying to piss off bassr's) a 12" bass isn't really worth eating.
