Southern California Saltwater Report 9/11-17 - JapanRon - 09-11-2003 Southern California Saltwater Report on September 11, 2003 (Thursday) Way Up North- Avila/Monterey 75+ albies for 3 boats at Chris's. Up North- Channel Islands Lots of rockfish but nothing else special. LA Area- Catalina Island Once again the yellow bite is down and up and down. Two grades of fish 30 pounders or 5 pounders. Further South- San Clemente The bite on yellows continues but not impressive. San Diego- Local and Offshore Lots of fish offshore with a mixed bag for the local boats. LA Local Almost as bad as San Diego. Just about every species is bite in small numbers somewhere from MDR to Newport. ha ha JapanRon [signature] Re: [JapanRon] Southern California Saltwater Report 9/11-17 - JapanRon - 09-13-2003 Southern California Saltwater Report of September 12, 2003 (Friday) Nothing really happened today to make big news for the weekend! Up North- Channel Islands Rockfish Rockfish Rockfish LA Area- Catalina Island A few Yellows and Calicos and that's IT! Further South- Celmente They gotta be catchin somethin' San Diego- Local and Offshore Local not much better than local LA counts. Offshore good catches. LA Local A little flurry on Barries and Sand Bass but nothing special except the seasonal Red Snapper and Rockfish. JapanRon [signature] Re: [JapanRon] Southern California Saltwater Report 9/11-17 - JapanRon - 09-14-2003 Southern California Saltwater Report for September 13, 2003 (Saturday) FANTASTIC ALBACORE BITE UP IN AVILA AND MONTEREY! 150+ ON A NUMBER OF BOATS! ESPECIALLY CHRIS'S BOAT TRAFFIC IS KILLING THE YELLOW BITE A CATALINA FOR MANY SPORTIES! EXAMPLE: ONE BOAT 90 ANGLERS 8 YELLOWS. Way Up North- Avila and Monterey Ablacore galore. Up North- Channel Islands Lots of rockfish and red snappers. LA Area- Catalina Island Yellows slow for many sporties but it seems the 15 and 6 packs did OK. Further South- San Clemente I'll bet less traffic helped their counts. San Diego- Local and Offshore Local fishing pretty good to fantastic off the kelp for yellows, etc. Offshore is good but not outstanding with a continuing mixed bag. LA Local It's almost a joke excepting MDR with red snappers and decent bites of a number of species way down by Newport. Up North- Channel Islands Lots of rockfish and red snapper. LA Area- Catalina Island Yellows for the sporties was very low. Further South- Clemente Yellows fair. San Diego- Local and Offshore Offshore fishing fair with Local fishing really good for he PBer's and a few boat hitting the kelp. LA Local Pick Pick Pick, A little of everything but not much of anything. I wouldn't go 1/2 day local. Good luck to those who do.
