Spinney Mountain State Park Construction Planned - FishNews - 05-27-2011 HARTSEL, Colo. - The City of Aurora announced Thursday that construction will take place June 6 through June 10 at Spinney Mountain State Park to add additional rip rap to the face of the dam. The dam is in excellent shape, but new rip rap is added periodically to help buffer the structure from the relentless waves. Construction is expected to start on Monday morning, June 6 and will be completed by the end of the day on Friday, June 10. Access across the dam and to south side sites will be closed to all public use during the project. "The contractor will have heavy equipment on the dam which will block both lanes of traffic," said Spinney Mountain State Park Manager Kevin Tobey. All parking lots on the north side of the reservoir will remain open including the North Boat Ramp and parking lot. For those wanting to fish the river below the dam, parking will be available at the Division of Wildlife lots on the south side of the Charlie Meyers State Wildlife Area between Eleven Mile and Spinney, which are just off County Road 59. "We realize this project will inconvenience a number of our guests, but the work is necessary for the long term protection of the dam and the contractor will work long hours to complete the project with the least amount of disruption possible," said Tobey.
