Lower Provo River Fishing - BigFishChalleng - 06-15-2011 Lower Provo River flows are back down to a good fishable rate. I fished the Provo this morning just below the dam and was able to catch 9 fish in 2.5 hours using a malibu jig. It was a good flow on the wider parts of the river but still a bit to swift in the narrower parts. Flow started at 540 cfs at 5 am and was brought down to 493 cfs by 11 am. Exceptable flow to fish. Thanks for the report, [signature] Re: [tkidder] Lower Provo River Fishing - BigFishChalleng - 06-15-2011 Below Deer Creek. The water clarity is not the best (low-medium visibility). [signature] Re: [Flycasting] Lower Provo River Fishing - BigFishChalleng - 06-15-2011 Sorry about the typo. I meant a Maribu jig. Maribu is the type of feather used. The actual jig name is a "White River Zig Jig". They sell these jigs up at the fly and tackle stores in Dutch John. You can also by them online. I have been using this jig for 6 years and it is awesome. 4 weeks ago I was fishing the Green River and caught 54 fish in one day 8 hours of fishing. [signature] Re: [Cheap_Insurance] Lower Provo River Fishing - BigFishChalleng - 06-15-2011 I started with a Black/Chartreuse (fluorescent yellow) which is the killer jig on the Green River with no luck. Then I switched to a White with Krystal Flash in it and caught all 9 with this jig. I tie my own jigs and flies, and marabou is killer! Especially on the Green like you mentioned. (when it's not 9000cfs) [signature] Re: [Flycasting] Lower Provo River Fishing - BigFishChalleng - 06-16-2011 I haven't personally fished the Green River with a 9000 cfs flow but my guess is that the jig would work still the same. The secret would be to get a heavier jig head like 1/2 oz heavy enough to sink it deep into the holes. I heard from the fly shops in Dutch John that when the flow was high at 9000 cfs fishing was fantastic. They were catching a lot of fish but of course you would need a boat. [signature] |
