Starvation Slam - jamon_negro - 06-24-2011
Had a four species day at Starvation today which is a first for me. Started out at Knight Hollow. Water was just over 60 degrees when I launched at 6ish. First two fish were smallies. Next two fish were walleyes. One small one and one that came home for for dinner with me. I then proceeded to miss a few others that I'm pretty sure were walleye as well. I'm fairly new to catching walleye, but they fight much differently than the rainbows. I also landed a couple of crazy rainbows. Those things are a blast to catch! I had one rainbow hooked that jumped right by my tube and came flying towards me. It bareley missed me and managed to get off. I felt like I was on one of those rivers with the crazy jumping carp for a minute. I also landed several other smallies before I left Knight Hollow around noon. The bite seemed to slow for me about 10:30ish. When I left at noon water temp was around 64 degrees. Fish were caught in 10-25 feet of water.
I really wanted to find some perch so I figured I'd stop at Bunny Gulch on my way home. Kicked around there until about three. Landed 4 more crazy bows and one small perch. Bows ranged in size from 16-20 inches and all were very healty. All in all it was a great day at Starvation.

I took my wife up there. She definitely approved. We never did target the trout but caught small sized specimens of the other 3. We'll be back I'm sure.

My apologies for the lack of gratitude. I meant to say thanks to both you and Tubedude. I guess the 3:30a.m wake-up call made me a little forgetful when I typed the report. I guess I'm not use to staying up all night chasing walleys yet. I really appreciate all the help I get here on the forums so THANK YOU

No decoder ring required! Great report. Sounds like you got onto some good fish. That's too funny - I've had lures come flinging past me, but not with fish attached like that.
Interesting comment about the 'fighting style'. I've heard of Walleye taking a bait, and just swimming along with you for a time. I know trout really get into that twisty tango - bending back-n-forth to shake that hook. How would you describe the Walleye feel?

Clarity was good at both Rabbit Gulch and Knight Hollow.
I'm still new to walleye fishing so I'm not an expert by any means, but the walleye I caught just seem to give a few head shakes as they fight and not much else. The bows fought more like hyper-active torpedos and went airborn from time to time. The fish I lost may have been something else, but I like to think they were walleye as that is what I was trying to catch and that is what they felt like to me.
