Koke time at Ririe! - mikkfin80 - 07-04-2011

Saturday I decided to take a trip up to RIrie and check it out because I hadn't heard any news for a while and I wanted to go somewhere close. We caught 4 fish and lost a few more. The water is getting pretty clear so I figured I would try again. Went back this morning and my 3 boys and I had a blast!
We netted around 30 kokanee and lost alot more right at the boat. I thought it would never turn on. Hope any one else that goes up can get into them. We had doubles a couple of times and we had one jump right in the boat when we were getting the net ready. When we hit 15 on the stringer we started turning them lose. My boys didn't really like that idea but I told them that 15 was plenty for the smoker. It was a ton of fun!

very nice! Any day on the water with the kids is a good one, and when they get to real in fish it makes it even better for them.
What depth were the kokes if you don't mind me asking?

15' to 20' seemed to be the sweet spot today. I had one rod on a down rigger and one with lead line out about 150'. Also caught a few using a jet diver. After we decided we had enough fish on the stringer we ended up just using 2 poles and that was plenty.

We've been up twice this week. Once in the evening and one morning trip and back to the office by 9am. Both trips produced around 15-20 fish and brought home 6 of the biggest ones each time. I can't even begin to tell you how good those things are !!! Had fish tacos one night then a hard roll/avocado fish sandwich....wow!

My oldest boy and I went up this morning for a couple of hours and boated ten. Yes, kokanee are delicious! I smoked the ones we caught monday and took a bunch into work and shared. Everyone loved it.
