Birch Creek Report - windriver - 07-22-2011 irst of all I am normaly against posting creek reports with the creeks being named. That being said Birch Creek is a family fishing water, heavily stocked and I don't see it being fished out anytime soon. I have been a couple of different times in the last week. The first time I took my nephew to work on his flyfishing merit badge and the second time I took one of my sons to work on his flyfishing skills. Both trips were a huge success. The brookies and rainbows were taking most anything with a drag free float. The best fly was the royal wolf, small cricket patterns were also good. The renegade didn't work as well this time. Overall we fcaught a ton of fish and I would recommend this as a place for the beginning dry fly fisherman to practice. I find it funny that guys get their underwear in a bunch whenever the name BC is mentioned. After all it is on the DWR website for reports and stocking and it is quite a far drive from the metropolis. I am with you, I doubt it is gonna get fished out anytime soon as well. What were the sizes on those fish? I hear there are some big one's in there. [signature] Re: [TyeDyeTwins] Birch Creek Report - windriver - 07-22-2011 All of the fish that we caught were small. They are really pretty little fish. We caught a lot more rainbows than I have in the past. Usually I catch many more brookies than rainbows, but not this time. Windriver is talking about Birch Creek the creek which is west of Idaho Falls. It has small planter rainbows and brook trout. A twelve incher is a nice fish there. Great place to take the kids. [cool] I think you are thinking of Birch Creek Reservoir in northern Utah which is known to have some nice fish in it but it is a ways to go to from either Salt Lake or Idaho. [ ![]() Nice report Windriver. It is always good to hear about the kids having a great adventure and learning some life skills! Way to go!!! [signature] |
