Help - Identifying the age of this Penn reel - Funchy - 09-17-2011

Hi All,

I was kindly given this Penn Reel from a friend here in Utah. It is a Penn Peer No. 309. I would love to know how old it is.

I have found out on the internet that they 1st made them in 1966. It is in very good condition and I will be taking it back home to see if I can snag a mackerel or two trolling the QLD waters. back home in Australia.

Does anyone know how I go about finding how old it is? I can't see a serial number or anything.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am guessing it is a early 1980's reel. Why? Because the older Penn's made in the 1960-1970's had brick-red colored sides, not black. They changed to black in about 1980-1981. Hope that helps.
