Hi ocean!

From what I hear the kokes are towards the end of their spawn. They should be red right now and up the rivers.

Me and the family went up to Strawberry 2 weekends ago for the outdoor festival. It was pretty cool to see all the Kokes in the holding tanks behind the visitors center. My kids got a big kick over seeing that many fish so close.

Last Sat. when OEJ and partyhut and I went to strawberry, they said that they had just started to run. We went up to the trap and there were about 100 in there. The people at the visitor center said they must be running at night, because they havent seen any in the river yet. Talked to a guy the same day and he said there were quite a few up indian creek. The next day, Danzilla and I went up to Porcupine and they were just finishing their run up there. in about a 1/4 mile stretch of stream we seen approx. 300 bright red Kokes. And a few that had already kicked the bucket!!! That was the first time I had seen the kokanee run. Kayote may know this question, but does the Kokes in Moon Lake run up the head waters of the Lake Fork???

Polokid,

They run up the Lake Fork out of Moon, but not very far. They also run up Brown Duck by the lodge and that other little creek on the east side near the dam (forget the name of it). What is strange about Moon Lake koks is they are so small when they spawn. It's not unusual to see little half pound mature red males doing their thing. Low productivity in Moon. The only fish that get big there do it eating other fish. I did catch a 5 pound brook trout in Moon once. Had a belly full of whitefish and dace. Wierd place.

Good Fishing, Kayote

One_eyed_jack caught a similar brook trout, it was approx. 22 inches and FAT, right under the hydro jets below the dam over Labor Day weekend. I am anxiously awaiting to catch a 5 lb + splake out of there now. I have caught some good sized ones, but nothing to really brag about. I am planning a ice trip this winter up there. I am hoping there is enough snow to make a snowmobile trip out of it.

The kokanee are red and up sheep creek inlet at the gorge. Was there last weekend. Its a lot further for you than strawberry. Plus at strawberry, you can just go look into the traps and dont have to walk the river.

But if you find yourself at the gorge, just drive down to sheep creek, where the road crosses over the the creek, theres a pullout, if you park there and go stand on the bridge, you can see some of them doing there thing below the bridge.
