LMB smallie cross? - toadly - 09-30-2011 Well lets see what ya all think. Went to Willard for Wiper last night. My son inlaw caught a nice Bass. Very fat. Has the head of a Small Mouth and the body of a Large Mouth I think. So is it a cross or just a fat fat Smallie. Very fat fish, but probably just has a small head on that big body. [signature] Re: [toadly] LMB smallie cross? - wagdog - 09-30-2011 Doesn't look like a cross to me. Looks like a northern strain largemouth bass. The upper jaw on a largemouth will extend past it's eye. I can't tell that from your pic. Got any others? Good fish either way man! Guess the shad dinner turbo charges a large mouth. Glad to see that some LMB's are starting to show up. Maybe a few of those will get together next spring and make a few more[ ![]() [signature] Re: [toadly] LMB smallie cross? - Fin-S-Fish - 09-30-2011 Sorry dude hahaha, no chance at a cross. That's just a largemouth with a tiny mouth and head LOL. There are some strains that have a small head and mouth like that. It could have some spotted bass genetics but definitely not smallmouth for sure. The hybrid is one bitchin looking fish! They tend to not have the solid lateral line, but more of a cross between a brokenish line mixed with vertical bars (like a smallie). They really are a neat looking fish! I have caught lmb with yellow eyes. If I remember right, some smaller ones down at powell had eyes like that. Your lard fish looks like a younger fish with the appetite of a bigger fish, so he is eating well but has a pin head! (Better than a hammer head). I echo the other sentiments : that's a nice fish no matter what! Especially a lmb from da lard. Rare! Just a first year pineview spawn. Here are a few fatties that I've caught in the past month. No shad in these reservoirs, but lots of young bass and panfish.
