Labman, Chick, Bass, 10/3/2011, Solo - FishNews - 10-04-2011

Late start today, put in at CFP about 1:30 and went forth to do battle. emoLaugh First stop I marked a ton of bait and plenty of fish under the bait. Water was 15-25' just off main river channel. Started with a deep crank bait and nothing. Pulled out my dropshot rod and lowered a gulp minnow. A quick slam and a nice LM in the boat. Man this is going to be easy today. NOT!!! Could not get another bite there.

Moved down into Harrison Bay and looked at similiar spots, some shallower. Same pattern, lots of bait and fish under the bait, but no bass bite. Did catch a blue cat about 7# on the gulp minnow. I was on the lookout for some of Maddogs whites, but no surface action. Even tried a popping cork on a couple of the shallow humps and adjacent deeper areas without catching anything. I am not happy now, and move upriver and check a couple other spots without marking any fish.

Finally saw a little surface action and moved in on those fish. They were in the usual up and down pattern, but would still hit after they went down. Caught a fair smallie, 3 spots and 2 LM in about an hour. All caught on Sammy and dropshot gulp in about 10-12' of water. A little windy, but i-pilot did its thing and held the boat perfectly. Quit about 6:00, pretty day and water temp about 73. I have got to get on these fish in Chick a little better.

Regards, Labman
