setup decision`s - loganG - 10-17-2011 Hello,I have been looking at a inshore/smallmouth rod and reel,.I have a penn sargus SG6000 for redfish.,Fine reel. so I would ask if a SG3000 would be good enough for a light inshore(puppy redfish and trout.) from a kayak,. now I have no idea were to start with the rod but i would perfer a split grip.(as the lighter i pack in fishing equipment in my yak. the more room for drinks and food). so tell me your setups and what you would recommend.. The reel above is 20+ years old and is used by me summer and winter. the rod is a sports fisher telscopic, 5'6" this rod is nearly 35 years old and has battled many a cat and carp so its duribility and reliability has stood the test of time.. Might I also add, I fish more than the adverage angler. the closest rod that I can find on the market today that best resembles mine is Shakespeare Telescopic Travel Rod it comes in a combo, for the price I would get it and put the better reel on it and hand the reel that came with it to the next kid I see.
