My 2011 Spike Bull Elk - BigBassaholic - 12-05-2011
Saw lots of spikes this year. Our camp ended up with a couple of spikes, a cow and calf.

we had a good year... I have ate some of the calf and it melted in my mouth like filet mignon. I got some steaks out for tonite. As you said lots of fat on them this year...

Pete, the day before I took this elk, I was on another herd and had another spike about 200 yards away. I shot at it twice and missed. That never happens so when I got back to camp I set up a paper plate at 100 yards and could not hit it with 3 shots. Then I moved up to 30 yards and still could not hit the plate. lol I checked the gun and scope over and on my leupold 6x18 scope one of the back screws on the right side was missing. I wiggled the scope and the back moved right to left with no resistance. I had to run to Price and get another back mount so I could get the screw. I ran into spikes almost on a daily basis, lots of cows and calfs also. Another guy in my group had a cow tag but he would not get off the ATV to come hunting with me. Wasted his tag, I even offered to take him back up the last weekend and he called and said no.... Pissed me off because I put in for the cow tag and did not draw it... take care pete..

Sounds like you did well despite the bad luck on the scope. I always try to put a little lock tite on my scope screws. Merry Christmas and have a great New Year.

loc tite is good, just don't use permanent on scope rings. If its an emergency and you dont care uf you remove it again fingernail polish will do the same thing. I'd treat nail polish as permanent loc tite.

I have used fingernail polish in the past but the guys made fun of me with my pink scope ring mount screws.[:/]
