Ice fishing for muskie help? - redfrog - 12-12-2011

I have a goal this year to catch a muskie through the ice. I know there are a few on here that target them on a regular bases on the ice. What I'm looking for is some info to get a good start. What type of tackle do you use(pole, line type, lures, bait, set up, strategy). I don't want your secret spot. I plan on looking for my own spots but the tackle, set up and way to fish is what I am lacking when it come to muskie. Further note if you are willing to show me how I'm willing to spend the gas and drive if you want to take a trip.

I know this is a hush hush topic for many so please if you don't want to put your info out there for everyone to see send me a PM

Thanks

Yep - you hit the nail - all hush hush 'bout musky!

I've never caught one through the ice, but it is on this year's quest list. I'm no musky expert, but I have found em, got bit, fought, landed, broked off too. Fun action in any case!

So where do you plan to try? I'm closer to Newton than Pineview - but hope to try both this year.
I have a jig that was real effective in the fall - and don't know why it wouldn't work under ice too.

Couple toyz/toolz I plan to try:

the [#ff0000]Grabb-it[/#ff0000] hook holder and remover
the [#ff0000]JawJacker[/#ff0000] - like a downrigger for ice-fishing
A [#ff0000]Berkely lip-gripper[/#ff0000], has a very long arm to it
The magic jig is a [#ff0000]Bagley Belly Button[/#ff0000] Perch pattern - tipped with a strip of perch, or worm
Plus - catching a Musky on the underwater camera would be really wicked!
