Wiley Coyote - submoa - 12-21-2011 Just wondering how many coyote hunters we have on here? I'm just getting into the sport, went out on Sunday pretty close buy so knowing they would be call shy, gave it a try anyways. I did get some howling back at me but couldn't get them to come any closer. The fog rolled in after that and I couldn't see past where my target would appear so packed it in for safety reasons. Overall it was a fun trip just getting out, the fact those yote's were howling back at us was pretty cool. It seems there are a lot more coyote hunters than I was aware of so I thought I'd drop a post and see how many were on here. [signature] Re: [IceAndFly] Wiley Coyote - submoa - 12-22-2011 I just bought a fox pro. It is a great unit, costs a fortune so I better get out more than I have before. I can see this may turn into an addiction. [signature] Re: [submoa] Wiley Coyote - jeremypeace - 01-10-2012 You know your addicted when you buy a 204.. that is the best darn yote gun ive ever used.. don't use the electronic calls to often that is what makes them call shy. Just get a good howler and a set of preditor calls with a squeeker jackrabit distress and cotton tail distres. Coyotes are way to fun to hunt.. wait tell you have a 80+ lb yote running a hundred yards out.. it will be a test of your excitment controle.. I use a mouth call for distress and a reed and mouth howler for howlss. I have called a lot of coyote in the fog but the lay of the land has to have a back stop. Got to love the sound of howling coyotes. Would like try calling wolf in Idaho. Lic and permit fee are about $180.00. Have an Uncle who lost 4 of his bear hounds to wolves last year. [signature] Re: [AFFamily] Wiley Coyote - redneck_delux - 01-23-2012 its been a long time since i have went out after coyotes. for me its usually a day trip out on a few hunting clubs (alot of them will pay you if you kill them on their clubs) lunch at mollies cafe in snowville and then home. i just use a tikka t3 lite in a .223 i like a 25-06 if they get way out there but the tikka usually does the trick. and i can pump cheap ammo through it no problem with deadly accuracy. i did however drill one this year with my ruger sr9 9mm on the way home from duck huntin. Re: [AFFamily] Wiley Coyote - submoa - 01-23-2012 I'd love to head up there and shoot one. I know it's been dang hard to get them up there. I know a lot of people who are up there hunting for them but don't know anyone who has got one. [signature] Re: [AFFamily] Wiley Coyote - skeeterfishn1 - 01-24-2012 I would like to get me a wolf but it would have to be next year. I have only done a small amount of research and that is lic and permit would be some thing like $187.00 or so. My hunting partner lives in Elko, NV I will have to rally him and go at it as a team. My wives brother-in-law lives in Idaho and he says they are tough to hunt. He says when they were first being hunted they would come to the call but became call wise quickly. If things go good I may be looking you up next fall. How far a drive is Bonner Ferry? or how many hours? [signature] Re: [skeeterfishn1] Wiley Coyote - AFFamily - 01-24-2012 Bonner's is a good 11 1/2 to 12 hours from Ogden. One of the best times of the year to go up there is late July or early August that way you can pick your fill of huckleberries too! [signature] Re: [submoa] Wiley Coyote - PACKFAN - 01-25-2012 I spent this past weekend hunting geese and ducks in Idaho and saw coyotes every day that we were out. Goose shooting was pretty good and a guy could take all the mallards, and pintail that you were allowed. Weather was windy, rainy and snowy couldn't have asked for better conditions. [signature] Re: [submoa] Wiley Coyote - fuzzyfisher - 01-25-2012 me and my boy have been out 6 or 7 times this year.. been able get some to answer our call but not show them selfs... [unimpressed] i dont know how it is up north but here in central utah the coyotes are very smart even the pro's stay out of the sandpet area.. but i have seen some in the west delta area.. and out east of huntington.. and i did get one to come close to us at E-lake a month ago.. [signature] Re: [skeeterfishn1] Wiley Coyote - icesore - 01-30-2012 I don't know Nevada law but they are in Montello. I know a ranch hand that reported seeing them to nf&g and they told him they are just large coyotes. That was the fall of 07. My uncle report seeing them on his way to eveston. Utah wouldn't confirm wolves in the area but wyoming confirmed two small packs and that was in winter 2010. Please help manage them closer to home first.[] [signature] Re: [icesore] Wiley Coyote - skeeterfishn1 - 01-31-2012 Montello wow. I have heard they have large home ranges making them hard to find, always on the go.
