Flaming Gorge resort? - submoa - 02-04-2012

Who knows anything about the resort Daggett County is trying to build down by Linwood bay?

Seems like a solid bankrupt idea to me considering there is no population near Flaming Gorge to support such an expense.

What are everyone's thoughts or knowledge of what this is?

I would have to agree.. Especially since the last 5-10 years there has been less and less people up there recreating it seems. Just cuz you build it don't mean they will come!

But, hey, a golf course where the wind blows all the time might make my slice go straight!!

I really know very little about what this is. I just look at putting a golf course in the middle of nowhere as a really unwise decision. Heck the golf courses in the valley barely sustain themselves. Take several more months of the year and close that one, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out it's a bankrupt idea. I was hoping someone would chime in and fill me in on what exactly the proposal is. I hear it's a pretty heated issue so maybe that's why nobody is commenting.

come on guys. think about the rabbits and prong horns. they will love it. lol o and the geese. i think its to increase property vaules around it. so some one can make a ton on building lots... but the area could use moore jobs...

Maybe we could use the golf course as a goose club in the fall?

I guess it could hurt if the County is left holding a loan for a contractor who doesn't make it, if that were to happen that is. I don't know much about it (to include how the land swap would happen and what risk is associated with the County) as I said before. I know enough about business to know a golf course will absolutely fail at the Gorge (common sense). I am all for bringing business up there.

I know all about it. I've been to the last several meetings with the commissioners and their newly-formed advisory committee. They're touring 6 proposed sites again on Feb. 16. They want to develop "lakeside property" into resort property.

IT STINKS! The Daggett County Commissioners STINK! One is very dirty and has a conflict of interest. This latest proposal has been kept "hush hush" until some of us made it more known in the last couple of county newsletters. Everyone was pretty shocked to hear of hidden pay raises and proposed development going on pretty quietly behind closed doors.

It has a long ways to go, including a swap of land between SITLA and the Forest Service, which includes attaching that to some legislation in congress. The plans are drawn for Linwood, but that's may or may not be a final proposed site. The Forest Service would swap land with SITLA, SITLA would then sell to private developers, and the crap would begin.

Lots of issues, but the commission is running with it. The same county commission that just voted itself a 100 PERCENT PAY RAISE just two months ago! They claim the county will go bankrupt without "economic development" such as this for more tax dollars. "It's all about the tax money," one commissioner said at Monday's meeting. County residents are mostly opposed to this kind of development. About 80/20 against based on a petition signed last week by 150 residents in Manila.

One issue is that the county has been receiving a $300,000 federal grant for Dutch John privatization/development, and the last payment will be in January 2013. So, they're saying they'll be "Short" $300,000 after that.

Same old story. Government needs to cut their wasteful spending. Daggett County is no different. I have the budget on my desk, right in front of me, as I type this. It needs to be cut to peices!
