191 views and no help? Well here's a little to try to get someone else to chime in. Wait until you hear "deadwater has blown out." That will be the best time to go along with everyone else until you figure out what you are doing. Roe, Beads and steelhead flies to start. Sportsmans in I.F. can help you. Be careful though.....you can spend a lot of money fast. use corkies with roe and you can also use them with flies. The best colors I have found are silver and blue, but have caught fish on other colors.Hard to explain the bite. The first time I went I was told if your drift slowed down or stopped..JERK! Last but not least.....don't be afraid to ask questions on the river bank. Most people will help out if asked. Don't worry about the few that are as#%#$ about things on the river. Just keep asking and you can gain some good information. Good luck and if you need P.M. me and I can try to help you out some more with what little bit I know.

Besides looking at posts for the Salmon R and Deadwater. Look at the Clearwater reports such as this one

Like Chrome Junky said, it really does make a difference whether you will be fishing the Salmon River or the Clearwater, but you can PM me too for info.

ilana,
If you are thinking of northern Idaho, then I would hit the Clearwater. That river is fishing well right now and there is plenty of access. The North Fork and the South Fork of the Clearwater are smaller than the main river and are much easier to access from shore. Also the fish are more concentrated in those rivers - but so are the anglers! The most used method from shore is a bobber and jig (usually tipped with sand shrimp). There are several reports on FindFish that should keep you up to date on how the river is fishing.
Hope you get a chance to get to these rivers, they are gorgeous!
