Deer Creek Sat. 24 - wyoguy - 03-25-2012

Met a couple of friends from SLC valley at DC yesterday for some fishing. We took two boats because neither boat is big enough to fish 3 comfortably. We went up near where the river runs in first thing looking for some walleye, but were never able to hook up with any. We then started fishing shallow (3 to 5 ft ) and started catching rainbows. I was using a shallow running rappala, and kokanee spinners on the other rod. Didn't seem to matter what color, they liked them all. I caught 21 rainbows all about 14 or 15 in., only one bigger at 19 in. They were all healthy and fighters, sorry but no pictures, too hard to get them released unharmed by myself. It was a very nice March day with only a little wind in the afternoon. The guys in the other boat caught as many or more than I did and I seen other boats netting fish also, just a good day for fishing.

Thanks for the report Gary, sounds like a fun day. Did you get a water temp by chance?

I have NEVER caught an eye at DC but made MANY attempts. I was BB'ing a Kokanee Creek spinner rig w/ crawler in 19' of water yesterday when I got hit. I was so excited I could barely utter the words to Art to grab the net. Turned out to be a 16" bow.
Very exciting but not the pay off I hoped for.

Daughter and I both have caught walleye at Deer Creek, fishing from shore. Try it at the bottom of the cliffs. We were mostly using floating worms a foot and a half or so off the bottom.
