Drowed camera. - GP - 04-11-2012

My camera fell in the water and won't work. I read somewhere a post to put the camera in rice. I didn't know on the inside or out. Does anyone know? Thanks

Ok DON'T TURN IT ON!!! Open the battery compartment and anything else that can open. Leave it in a bag of rice for multiple days.

There are options like using those drying/preserving packets in beef jerky. The ones in shoes are much better as they are big. But rice is great.

Take it to Inkleys as a last resort. But that will cost you.
Now I have heard of blow dryers and heating them in a oven for 50 degrees. DON'T DO THAT!!!!

This recently happened to my $1200 dollar camera which had two lenses. I took it to Inkleys and they wanted $200 for the IS short lens and $300 telephoto lens and they told me that the housing was okay.

It just so happens that a new IS lens would be $150 and a new telephoto lens would be $250.

When I told them that I am keeping the lenses and housing unit in bags of sealed rice, they shook their heads, looked at me like I was crazy and said, "that likely will not work out".

2 days later everything was fine and working well thanks to a 48 hour rice bath!!!!

The only drawback is that waterspots may appear on the inside of the lens. Nothing much you can do about that.
