cast4bass, CFF#7 Chick, Bass, 6/16/2012, Jack - FishNews - 06-18-2012 Fathers day weekend I could not have asked for a better gift than to fish with one of my boys and be in the company of all the great CFFers. Thanks to all who made the TX possible. We started out at HBSP marina and tried to see if we could get a TW bite. I was using a buzzbait and Jack tried a spook. There was bait moving and an occassional swirl but could not get any takers emoBang We worked the whole area and then the two pockets on the way to the main bay. NADA! We pulled the TM and went to the big slough right before WTC and threw chatterbaits at laydowns. I got a keeper but that was it. Jack had fun watching a noodle swim around so we went over to it and there was a nice catfish under it. We threw it back and someone is gonna have a catfish fry emoLaugh We fished the chatterbaits along riprap and ran into Cutthroat who did not mind us fishing behind them - they only had three small keepers at that point and we had one so we felt we may have a chance. I liked Jack's attitude - Dad we can win this!! Jack missed a good one on the chatterbait when it jumper and threw the hook. emoBang Could not get a strike after that. It was 8:30 and we were now wondering can we ever get three fish. Marked some deep fish and tried a spoon and a heavy SB but hauled water. Tried some plastics but NADA. Moved around and about 10 found a transition spot where the water was 6 to 8 feet and dropped to 20+ feet. Jack hooks up but it is a short! Jack was the man though because I was casting on the wrong area and he found a nice school. We both changed to shakey heads and begin catching. We got three just barely keepers and then culled. Jack lost two good ones that could have been 3's + emoBang Funny that all our good fish we caught after 10:30 after numerous spots and trying many tactics. The place we caught them had the ledge but not really any structure. Our best fish ran with the lure in its mouth and I just kept taking up slack until I could set the hook and it was almost at the boat by then. Like another post the fish werent hitting hard and you had to set the hook on the first peck. Jack had a hard time adjusting to that and had many bites that never made it to the boat. I lost a few too. But we did get our limit. emoFish The bite really slowed and about 1 we pulled the TM and ran up river to try a few deep ledges and see if we could upgrade. The wind had picked up and the ride was rough with wind and boat traffic. Cought some shorts but nothing we could upgrade with. Weighed in about 7.81 and actually felt good about it. emoGeezer Great day on the water and caught somewhere around 20 fish. |
