Dropshot, Chickamauga, CFF #7, Bass, 6/16/2012, Troy - FishNews - 06-19-2012
Troy took the backseat today and we started out fishing shallow with a topwater and a jig. Troy boated our first keeper on a jig before I caught one on a topwater after missing three on blow-ups. We then continued to fish a little deeper water and seemed to get into a groove, catching our limit and starting to think about culling. We caught these on a soft plastics texas rigged. As it warmed up and the sun came up, the fish seemed to move out deep and we tried to do the same. We hit a spot Troy recommended and caught another keeper, which would later come back to haunt us, as it was hooked deep and would succumb to the wound.
We went to a deep ledge, but the wind and boat traffic made it a short trip. We then went to a dock in 8 feet of water and Troy caught our final and best keeper on a swim jig. At this point we had to make a decision to keep the gut hooked fish and count it, or give it to a fisherman for a meal. After weighing the fish I miscalculated the dead fish penalty, which I thought was 8 ounces but was changed to a pound. This decision was totally my fault and cost us several points in the standings due to my blunder.
Anyway, had a good day fishing with my food friend and fellow tournament committee member Troy. I can see why he and Brian are such a formidable team. We caught a total of 27 fish, with 9 keepers. Unfortunatley, the big bite eluded us and boat traffic/wind/fishing traffic kept me off some of the ledges I wanted to fish.
