Looking to buy a new casting rod/reel for all-round fishing - dangerzone9k - 07-30-2012 Hi all, I've always used spinning rods my whole life and I want to try a casting rod. I want this rod to be a good all arounder. My current spinning rod is medium power with mod action. Now, I want to get a rod that will help me catch walleyes, pike, bass, catfish, carp. So, I've been doing research and I know one rod can't do it all. What rod comes close. I'm thinking med power with fast action. I want it to be a travel rod. Budget is ~ $300 for both rod/reel. I don't mind buying used. Also, what baitcasting reel is best bang for the buck? I think I paid less than $100 about six years ago. I am happy with it, but I think I will be buying another one soon now that I know what features I'd like. My theory when getting the first of anything is buy a house brand that is ready to roll, then get another down the road when you get experience. You're gonna own more than one anyway!! [signature] |
