Lincoln Beach cats - Boatloadakids - 08-10-2012

[:p]Had fun at LB today. Took 10 yr. old grandson out and caught some good ones. Best fish was a 26 incher on white bass head.

Great day spent with next generation. Pics say it all.

Nice fish! Was anything biting besides the cats?

We focused on the cats. The white bass in the launch channel could be caught as fast as you could drop a piece of worm in the water. Most wb were 4-5 inchers, perfect for cat bait.

Good calm day and not too bad if you are out of there before the sun gets too hot. The water level seems to really be dropping now. Still plenty of depth to launch.

Fun day.

Big grins, Big bunch of cats - what more could you ask for. Better sharpen up that fillet knife!

Ocean-
We fished mostly south of the launch up close to the reeds. Water depth was only a couple of feet or so and lots of sea weed/moss. The cats were there and willing to bite. Their best defensive move was to head for the phrags or reeds and we broke a few off trying to turn them.

Went out again today (Sat,) and only caught three in the same area. Guess we caught them all yesterday. [Wink] Kids are pushing me to maximize fishing trips before school starts. Hard on an old man but somehow I'll git er done.

Best to ya

Hey thanks too bad the fishing wasnt as good as last time. Thanks for the info i need to get me into some cats but was your boat really in 2 feet of water? Dont think i can get my boat into that low of water. Were you using bobbers or letting the bait sit on the bottom.I might just have to give it a try tomoprrow thanks for the info.

Yep, it really is only about 2 feet deep in there next to the reeds. I'm in a 17 ft. Tracker with an outboard and I lift it before I kick up mud. I have a Mincota (one "n" or two??) on the front and I lift it up to where it is running just under the surface -- not too dangerous in mud but I have had a few "incidents" out at Bird Island trying to do the same thing. I keep thinking the cats will move out in to deeper water with all the heat but I have not done as well trying to find them deep.

We were fishing without bobbers and just trying to drop a chunk of carp or a half of a wb in some open water close to the reeds..The cats seemed to find the grub without any problem. When we got a hook-up they would cut for the phrags or tangle in the moss. We used a 12 pound test mono and it helped to winch them through moss but when they got in the phrags and did a couple of round-abouts they either broke off or we had to break them off. We tried fishing a little farther out from the reeds in deeper water but no luck.
Anyways, I'll probably be out there again next week with gkids so if you see us be sure to give a shout.
