"Take a Kid Fishing" Day set for Delawares Trap Pond State Park Aug. 19 - FishNews - 08-14-2012
LAUREL (Aug. 9, 2012) - Do you know a child or young teen who might enjoy learning about angling and trying their hand at landing a fish? The Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife's Take a Kid Fishing! program is designed for these budding young anglers, and the next date on the program's calendar is coming right up.
From 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Aug. 19, youth ages 6 through 15 are invited to come out with a parent/guardian and cast a line at Trap Pond State Park* near Laurel. Free fishing instruction and other activities will be offered from 8 to 9 a.m., with fishing beginning at 9 a.m. Catch and release is encouraged for young anglers landing fish.
Sponsored by the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife's Aquatic Resource Education Center and Delaware State Parks, Take a Kid Fishing! teaches young people fundamental fishing skills and conservation. Fishing equipment will be provided, but participants may want to pack a picnic lunch.

*NOTE: While participation in the program is free, Delaware State Parks entrance fees are in effect for Trap Pond State Park - $3 per vehicle with Delaware tags and $6 with out-of-state tags. Entrance passes for free park admission are available to participants with pre-registration. Participants 16 years and older must have a current Delaware fishing license and a FIN number to fish.
This program is part of Delaware's Children in Nature Initiative, a statewide effort to improve environmental literacy in Delaware, create opportunities for children to participate in enriching outdoor experiences, combat childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles. Delaware's multi-agency initiative, which partners state and federal agencies with community organizations, is in conjunction with the national No Child Left Inside program.
