Henry's Lake - Best flies? - pookiebar - 08-29-2012

So I just found out this morning that I am going on a trip this weekend to Henry's lake.

What are the best flies for this time of year? I have fished the opening in the spring before, but have never gone late summer like this.

Thanks for any help.

Renegades, bighorn scuds, buggers and leech patterns.

There has been an ongoing debate on the Idaho boards about what catches bigger fish, streamers or scuds, but I would say my personal opinion is streamers catch bigger fish more consistently

Haven't been there for years, but a black or olive leech pattern on a sink-tip line was killer back then, also. The float tube guys cast out 50' or so and very slowly "fin trolled" once the leech had sunk to the depth needed.

(If all else fails, a brass or copper spoon is THE spinning lure there. Hammered finish with a red stripe was the hot ticket back then.)

In late summer, the fish we kept had an unpleasant grassy flavor, BTW.
