Invasive Mussel's and aquatic vegetation? - WillCFish - 09-29-2012

What invasive species are in your area?
How will they impact the fishing and lakes in your area?
Invasive species seem to be everywhere these days.

We do have some millfoil here in CT. With the striped mussel just showing up.
Lake St.Katherine in VT, has had Millfoil for years and they have dumped chemicals into it for 6 or so years and have wrecked the fishing. No more Pike and the lg.mouth have fallen off 50%. I can only hope they go back to harvesting like they use to.

we have hundreds of them here in michigan, they come in by the ocean linner load. both dry land and water verieties.

zebra mussles, gobi. are the most predominant, they are everywhere, even in places where there is on water flow. they attach them selves and eggs to boats or people suck them in to the live wells and dump them in inland lakes.

I dont need to mention the asian carp threat.. hope the dry mississippi gets rid of a bunch of them.

Those bighead carp are moving into a lot of areas.
I've heard they are coming up the Missouri River also and
are as far North as Gavins Point Dam, South Dakota.

You're right Davetclown.
Our DNR found a couple small Zebra Mussel's and think they got them all. Highly unlikely. Once these things are in a lake they're there to stay unless the organism scientist are working on that kills them works. Many times introducing biologics is worse than the invasive.
