Pineview Gill Netting and Ramp Repair Update - k2muskie - 10-21-2012
I've been in contact with the DWR Mr. Chris Penne on the recent Pineview gill netting survey. The results of the gill netting was to check up yellow perch abundance and size.
Per Mr. Penne is the following:
"Perch numbers are steady. A majority of the population is still below 8", but there are certainly larger perch available. From an ice fishing standpoint, this means anglers are going to have to search a bit to find the bigger perch (10"+), but they are in there. A similar story with the black crappie...lots of smaller fish, but there are still plenty of keepers to be found if anglers are willing to put in the time."
Now onto the ramp repairs:
Both the Port Ramp and Cemetery Ramp have had minor repairs done. Port Ramp requires caution when using it...still very rutty and folks launching water vessels recommend going very slow reducing the amount trailer bouncing to prevent damage.
Pineview is roughly 40% capacity maybe a titch lower. Lots of exposed shorelines and boaters please use caution as there are a lot of unexposed sandbars/shelfs/points just a few feet under the water especially in the middle inlet portion of Pineview.

Thanks for the update Kim. It doesn't sound like they did any major repairs on the ramps, have you been up there and checked it out? Sounds like it should be good ice fishing this winter for perch and crappie, hopefully better than last.

Hi WH2 yep we've been up to PV. The forest service manager was up there this past Friday and I had a discussion with him regarding the ramp and a few other topics. Indicated he had a crew coming up on Friday to continue working on the ramp.
We're not overly optimistic on the abundance of larger size Perch this hard season. But here in a couple months hopefully we shall find out.

Nope didn't ask about Bass. I can tell you this though we've been catching some football size Smallies. Anywhere from 12"-19" and these fish are girthie. So based on what we've C&R I'd say the PV SMB are doing just fine but thats just me.

I surely hope we can find some slabbo slobs up there this yr... last yr was brutal!!!!
And as.for the bass- they are doing fantastic... lots of piggy smallies caught by myself and other TM anglers- several fish at 4lbs put in my boat this yr
