put in around 10:30 and went up river. got a big drum on a tube a few minutes in, and then dad got a largemouth around three pounds on a spinnerbait. after that the clouds busted up, the sun popped out, the wind picked up and the bite shut off for us, so much so we went to crappie jigs for a couple hours. after a few bream, some small spots, and one crappie we went for the evening hail mary bass bite and I got my personal best smallmouth to date on a jerkbait at 5lb 14oz. at first we could not get our scales to weigh right due to the cold. but after we warmed the batteries up they seemed to be accurate. we also had a good samaritan at the ramp weigh it on his scales with the same results. after that it was free to go eat and pack on a couple of more ounces. I just knew this fish was 6+. oh well for wishful thinking. surface temp was 47 degrees.
