the maddog, Chicky, wet day specs, 1-9-13, Marv - FishNews - 01-11-2013
emoRain Launched out of HBSP at 10:10am in the drizzling rain and ran to the community holes hoping that without anybody else fishing we might find some keepers in numbers. Caught crappie steadily on each of four stops but it was the same bite as always,9-10inch fish being 50/50 white crappie. By noon we were getting bored and only had 5 keepers over 11in in the livewell with a total of about 35 throwbackers(10.5in range). Started graphing a ditch leading out to the main river channel and checked on a spot that I had brushed heavy years ago...found that some fresh brush had been planted there and had a pile of fish on the graph, threw out a marker and backed off to fish it. First cast Marvin caught a nice 13in black crappie, then I caught a 2lb2oz-14in black beauty and another 13in...it was 'game on' for the next 20minutes till Marvin hung the brush twice in a row which seem to spook em off. Ended the day at 2:00pm with one limit to head for the house and dry out. My New Years Resolution was to keep, fillet and savor my first Tarp this year...in an effort to rid off the jinx of such a terrible year that I had crappie fishing last year...mission accomplished!emoHungry (burp)and it was delicious for supper!
We fished 'odd' sized jigs today...Marvin used a 1/12 with monkey milk and I threw a 1/24 with a clear/blue flake 2inch curltail grubb that they absolutely engulfed when they took it, they were some old ones that I dug out of my fishing locker at home...hope I can still find some more around town. Water temp was constant 46.7* and it drizzled rain the whole time we were on the water...glad I had a good rainsuit, not a wet place on me when I got home, 'cept my fingers were pruned! emoRain |
