mantua 1/23 - Ahi1953 - 01-24-2013

Went up to Mantua today .on the ice at about 10:30 off about 4:00 .
Cold in the morning but warmed up by noon . then cooled right back down as sun got close to the mountain.

ice 3 bows . wasted 2 hours at 9' . kept getting tiny taps on my rods not sure what they were. moved out to 11' and bam had a 12" bow on the ice kept missing them but lots of bites ended up with 3 iced 2 12" and a 15" all released.

Thanks for the report - I'm a little disappointed that all the trout there have shrunk[crazy] w/the stockers - may go up on Saturday or PV haven't decided. How was the water clarity?

Thanks matt

I fished Mantua yesterday from 9 to 12:30, caught a dozen gills, 2 perch, and several Trout. 13 feet of water. The tiny taps were probably the Blue Gills. Bite died off around noon.

Thanks fishnutts.
the gills are what I was hoping to find. guess I'll try a little deeper and pay closer attention to those little taps.
were there any good size to the gills you caught? how deep did you fish ? bottom?
may try there again this weekend. if not there then the PV. if I can find a parking spot lot was loaded on Martin King day.

The bites were very light some times non-existent, I would watch the flasher, when a fish lined up with my jig, i would watch for any line movement, slight bend in the spring bobber, or a quick tap. I found it don't hurt to set the hook at anything you might think is a bite (it don't cost extra [Wink]). Had fish on many times with no detectable bite's (usually the bigger gills). I was fishing in about 13 to 14' of water, and i was catching them about 2 ' to 3' off the bottom. The gills, this year seem to be a little bigger on average than last year.
