Ice Catching in the rain at Yuba (1-24) - TyeDyeTwins - 01-25-2013 Flew down to Yuba again with Duckdog1us. I met him in Happy Valley at 7am via frontrunner. After a quick trip compared to those on the freezing rainy roads that lead to happy valley we were dead set on hooking into some pike at yuba! Upon arrival we noted that we were all alone with the lake to ourselves. We searched for a few hours when I hooked into the 1st pike of the day............... When the rain started we hit the tent and tried for perch. Nope not a nibble with the perch gear. Then we noticed the snow on top of the ice was now 2 inches of water! Sure enough I switched back to the pricey pike gear and the result was worth it! Duckdog finally got a pike on the line but after a decent fight we had the head at the hole and it spat the lure right at us. The fish was bigger than mine. After that Duckdog was suddenly concerned about the ice on the roads after dark so we made a 4pm departure with the epic views of Yuba. Nothing quite like it in the winter!!!!!!!!! Since the train runs on its own scheduel I took in the art at the station while I took in inquiries about my fishing appearence. The tracks were slick so the ride was twice as long to get back to SLC. [signature] Re: [TyeDyeTwins] Ice Catching in the rain at Yuba (1-24) - Travis23 - 01-25-2013 Cool report, thanks for posting. Honestly havent been to Yuba in 4 years. Great pics as always, you do have an eye for the camera. That last shot of the lake is beautiful. Thanks for sharing [signature] Re: [fish_fear_me2] Ice Catching in the rain at Yuba (1-24) - TyeDyeTwins - 01-25-2013 I went to Yuba every weekend for a whole summer when I was a kid (my dad windsurfed) and yesterday was the most scenic I have ever seen it. Now the summer months there will look dull in comparison. Also it was nice to hit Yuba in the rain and not worry about thunderstorms!!!!! Size 28 BWO. 60 foot casts. Sounds about right for those finicky and selective beasts. [/#0000FF] [signature] Re: [TyeDyeTwins] Ice Catching in the rain at Yuba (1-24) - Wildcat94 - 01-26-2013 just curious how do those pike taste? How do you prepare them? [signature] Re: [Wildcat94] Ice Catching in the rain at Yuba (1-24) - TyeDyeTwins - 01-27-2013 I use a cajun flour (McCormic) and pan fry them in peanut oil. People that think they taste like "dog turds" probably didn't remove the skin during the fillete process and the meat marinated in the slime. I tried it side by side and the flillets that sat in the bag without the skin/slime tasted WAY better. Hope it helps. There are MANY different ways to prep them but I like my way. People that have tasted my fish say it tastes like sweet potatoe fries. The meat from 3 of them (all 18 to 29 inches long) saved my buddy over the summer that didn't bring food. Unlike trout we ate till we were full that night at Yuba. [signature] Re: [Wildcat94] Ice Catching in the rain at Yuba (1-24) - ocean - 01-27-2013 Pike taste way better than any trout . Very simple to cook pike batter of your choice and deep fried .[] [signature] Re: [TyeDyeTwins] Ice Catching in the rain at Yuba (1-24) - danielc - 01-28-2013 I sure would like to get my hands on some of those slimy dog turds threw the ice we went Sat morning and got the skunk but that's fishing nice job on the northerns I might have to give it another try [signature] Re: [Wildcat94] Ice Catching in the rain at Yuba (1-24) - BertDawg - 01-29-2013 I make a pike loaf wich the basic recipe consists of about 1lb of cooked pike flaked 2 cups of crushed saltine crackers or bread crumbs. 2 eggs well beaten. Half a stick of butter. Redmond real salt to taste. Pepper, parsley, and a dash of lemon juice. Cooked in a meatloaf pan in oven on 350. My mom loves it. I have also added ketchup and salsa to the top but momma didn't like it but I loved it. Its also great the next day on a sandwich with some mayo and horsey sauce. [signature] |
