Scofield - ChubbyChaser - 02-16-2013

Got bored of sitting around so loaded the boys and one of their friends and headed to scofield around 9 this mornign. Got there about 10:30 and fished right off the statepark ramp. Ice was close to 2 feet with at least a foot of snow on the entire lake. Had the old lungs burning on the way out and back.
We started shallower than i wanted to be at about 9 feet but with it so thick i didnt have the energy to drill anymore holes.
I really need a power auger...

My 7 yr old caught a 10 inch tiger right off he bat. Ended with 5 on the ice for the 2 hours were there so pretty slow fishing. Except for the tiger the rest were cutts witht the biggest at 16 inches. The nice part of the statepark ramp is the kids can sled when the fishing is slow, and sled they did. Temp was 0 at arrival, sun warmed us up to mid 30 s when we left.

I want to send a shout out to the CO on duty. We got checked and my sons friend had left his license in the truck. He could have easily warned or ticketed us but he gave us a friendly reminder to always have it and did not bust our chops any further. Very friendly and courteous and a great rep and ambasSador for the dwr. Kudos!
We will be sure to have all the proper gear in the future for sure.
Slow fishing but beautiful weather and a great day to be out with my boys.
We had thought about rockport to chase some perch but i was worried abiut the edges being soft with the warmer weather.

Thanks for posting your report, sounds like you did Ok for only fishing two hours.
You would have been ok at RP, we were there yesterday and did good for perch. The edges were good, we were on the ice around 7:30am with ATVs and off at 1pm when the edges were going down hill but still ok until the last foot or two, still no problem even with atvs.

We hit Scofield yesterday also, two of us iced 24. Nothing great but some fair fish. We fished the north west side using white small tube jigs. NO CHUBS AGAN ///// We tipped with minnow because WE COULD NOT CATCH A CHUB FOR BAIT........ Was a great day to be on the ice.

Yes it was a bit slow. [shocked][shocked][shocked] Two of us caught 24 also. Only one small tiger, and not really anything big at all. Fished the far west side. Just waiting for the water to get soft. [Smile][Smile][Smile]

I don't know what we were doing wrong. We started on the west side ended on the east rock shore line. The two of us iced 1 10 inch cut the whole morning. Fishing sucked for us. Glade someone had some success.

Sorry it was so slow for you guys. I like to stay failry close to shore near points ir structure where the fish will pass over as they swim by. I use a marcum showdown so i can getnthe depth right and return to that depth each time once i finally have it dialed in. We used minnows and wax worms for the fish we caught and i bave always had my best luck on minnows mainly at scofield. I hope to make one more trip this year and see if it picks up, the ice thickness definitely takea away some of that motivation to go more often.[:/][:/]

Cutt? Tiger ? Someone better say what it is, looked like a cutt from what I could tell. But I am looking at it on an iPhone. So I can't really tell.

If its a cutt, no way state record, it's like 26 lb.
If its a tiger , yes it could be new record. It's 15 lb

If he released it, it would be an easy catch and release record by two inches and a couple pounds
