Echo and Rockport report - like.2.fly - 03-08-2013 The edges are going fast on both! My son and I headed up to Echo first thing this morning. Couldn't really find a good place to get on the ice. Stood on shore and lobbed big rocks over about 6' of open water, and had some breaking through about 8 feet out. This was a ways south of the marina ramp. Looked like maybe there were a couple of places farther north to get on with a plank, but we passed and went to Rockport instead. Same story, only not quite as bad. Several places to get on, but we still planked over 3' of open water. There are a few spots you can still step over. Very muddy shorelines and slippery hiking down! Ice still plenty thick, at least 16". But over the next few days I expect access to become very difficult. Fished for 3 hours targeting perch but iced 4 bows. One was an 18 incher. Bows were suspended from 6' - 20' down over 35 FOW. [signature] Re: [like.2.fly] Echo and Rockport report - whipper-snapper - 03-08-2013 Thanks for the info. Looking at heading to Echo in the morning, hopefully we can find a good spot to get on the ice....maybe we'll have to re-route. If you do get on will you let me know what the main ice condition is too. I drove by there monday and noticed that there is no snow so make sure you have ice cleats to be safe and not break your neck. That changes my plans for sunday. [signature] Re: [perchound] Echo and Rockport report - whipper-snapper - 03-09-2013 BUMMER! That changes our plans as well. Thanks for the heads up before I drove up that way. [signature] Re: [perchound] Echo and Rockport report - icerman - 03-09-2013 I fished Echo Friday. Brought a 12' plank and had no problem getting on/off towards the dam end. I had the whole lake to myself. Had quite a hike getting to my perch spot. Catching was horrible, one perch, 4 trout. Unable to locate the perch; tried 15-45' of water. Caught the trout at 8-10'. If I saw the trout deeper they would not bite. Won't be going back this ice season. [signature] |
