puttin' the worms to bed - lonehunter - 11-16-2003

well old man winter is here to stay for a bit , so it's time to put the worms to bed . the lures too , just no takers on them for about a week .

after a couple hours of drifting a few down my honey hole this afternoon without as much as a nibble mark on the critters , i returned to the bait store for some minnows . first cast got slammed in the same drift hole , not a bad crappie either . this continued thruout the afternoon untill it was time to return to the woods .

tomorow is an early hunt followed by a trip to the east side for some whitefish and steelhead action . i gotta start investing in waxworms and minnows for a bit , untill march i would say .

I love usin minnows where I can-but over the last few tears I've started using little bits of earthworms as tippers on on my ice rigs-they seem to work better!

They have some good prices on large and small quantities.

I hope this helps you out.

[cool]Hey lonehunter,

Here in Southern California old man winter lasts as long as maybe 48 hours. That is for us folks in the flat lands. Different story for those who live 1½ hrs north in the area where all the big fires occured a few weeks ago. Several smaller lakes in the Big Bear area will ice up in the winter. Time to start thinking about fitting my float tube with skis.[Wink]
