The Berry 6/28 - Fishassassin - 06-29-2013 Made it up to the berry today to do some kokanee fishing. Got on the water about 6:30 and turned up the sensitivity on the fishfinder to find the thermocline and sure enough is showed 30-40 feet down was the magic depth. Started catching fish as soon as we got the downriggers down. Caught several cutts before finally getting into a great big kokanee. About 40 cutts later landed another good sized koke. It was a calm and glassy day and the water temp was mid 60's. Out in the bay we could see hundreds of rainbows schooled up about 10 feet below the surface. Some boaters stopped to jig for them but they seemed too spooked to bite. Got off the water at 11:00 cause the heat was getting to us. We were really impressed by the size of the kokes this year. Should be a great year for them! If you can keep the cutts away! [signature] Re: [Fishassassin] The Berry 6/28 - night_flyguy - 06-29-2013 Nice Kokes! Did you happen to see any fish rising near points, possibly taking damsel flies? See many damsel flies around? You sure those were rainbows? They look like adult chubs getting ready to spawn. Would be a great time with my cast net . [signature] Re: [Fishassassin] The Berry 6/28 - MasterDaad - 06-29-2013 Awesome. I'm headed up there tomorrow hopefully for some similar action! But we could definitely see some schools of rainbows as most of them were barely under the water. Could have been a mixture of both. Those pictures were taken out in the bay over 80 feet of water. Cool to see such large schools of fish. All the species of fish in that lake seem to like that setup. Kokanee spinners like the y blade spinners and assassins work well too in the same colors. Fished strawberry bay, there seemed to be fish all over. Cant really recommend a specific area in there. I hope you have some good success. [signature] |
