Bear Lake From the Shore? - TroutFool - 08-05-2013

Pretty sure I already know the answer to this, but I've gotta try anyways. Have any of you had any type of success fishing from the shore at Bear Lake? I unfortunately don't have one of those floating things with a motor to really get out to the fish. If you have had success from the shore, what type of bait and lures have worked for you?

Thanks in advance for any help!!

You still can fish from shore at Bear Lake at this time of year. However, you are limited as to where you honestly have a chance at catching a cutthroat or lake trout during the summer from shore. If a cutt or laker is what you are after, I would fish at Cisco Beach (behind the toll booth) and use a 1 ounce or bigger sinker. Then use a slider hook on the line above the sinker. Use a whole cisco or good sized chunk of sucker for bait. Cast out as far as you can and you can easily be in 80' or more. Let it sink to bottom and then hang out and wait. Using lures from shore at this time of year is pretty futile since they just don't get down deep enough for the trout.

If you are after any fish (carp or suckers) they can be caught along the shoreline off the marina or just about anywhere using just about any kind of bait. There have a been quite a few fly fisherman wading and casting with flyrods for the carp. They put up a hellofa fight on a light fly rod.
