How to jig for kokes? - fsh4fun05 - 08-15-2013

Heading up to the Gorge but I'm not really set up to troll. I'd like to scratch a kokanee off the bucket list and I read something on a different post about jigging for them but...how? Where?
I'm not looking for any trade secrets, just want to get in on some of that action.

Assuming you have a boat and fish finder the key is to get over top of a school of Kokes. After you do that I've caught them jigging Krocodiles, castmasters and plastic jigs. You have to be precise with depth so they see it in front of their noses then the rest is easy just jig it until you get a hit. Good luck. J

Ps I haven't been up this year so don't know where to tell ya the fish are.

I've got the electronics, side finder and down scan. Do you tip them with anything? I've been reading conflicting stories.

I did tip them with gulp maggots, but the guy next to us was using salmon eggs and he really out fished me. Don't know if it was the location or bait. This was through the ice so I don't know if its the same from a boat. I usually troll for them in the summer. Later J

We did it last week up at the Gorge. Find them with your fish finder then drop your jig down to where they are. We used buzz bombs jigged fast up and slow down with a rest once you got down to where the fish were. Often the kokes would hit it while you were resting the jig. We didn't have to tip the jigs with anything. If you are getting macks come up a bit. We found that we could pick the fish up any time of the day so we trolled in the early morning and jigged later in the day.
